In the early morning hours of May 20, 2016, the life of 18-year-old Emmanuel Isaiah Clark was tragically cut short on the 400 block of West Saratoga Street in Baltimore, Maryland. The young Black man, known to his friends and family as Eman, was with a group of friends when gunfire erupted, forever altering the course of many lives.
Just as the sun was beginning to rise, after a night spent shooting dice with friends, shots were fired from a black truck.
Witnesses at the scene later recounted hearing the gunshots and seeing that Clark had been struck. The tranquility of the emerging dawn was shattered by the violent act, leaving a young man fatally wounded and a community in shock.
The subsequent police investigation into Emmanuel Clark's homicide led to the identification of a suspect. Tiquan Dinkins was arrested and faced a trial in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. He was charged with first and second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and a handgun violation. CCTV video footage from the area, though it did not capture the shooting itself, showed a black Durango SUV that matched the description provided by witnesses.
During the trial, the jury considered the evidence presented. Ultimately, Tiquan Dinkins was found not guilty of the murder and conspiracy charges. However, he was convicted of wearing, carrying, or transporting a handgun, for which he was sentenced to three years in prison.
