The shooter, identified as Jamal Jahmarley Meyers, fired multiple rounds at passengers seated at the rear of the bus, causing the driver to steer the vehicle into oncoming traffic before ultimately stopping at the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
Colon, who had been working to rebuild his life, was on his way home from his job with a moving company at the time of the shooting. He left behind two daughters, 14-year-old Isabella and 22-year-old Destiny, as well as three grandchildren. Jamal Jahmarley Meyers, the suspected shooter, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Meyers, who did not appear at his initial bond hearing, remains in custody at the Broward County Jail.
