Iverson Vilsaint, a 20-year-old resident of Miami, Florida, was tragically found dead on April 1, 2022, at the Villa Del Lago apartment complex in Miami Gardens. His body was discovered early in the morning behind the leasing office and basketball court area by a woman who immediately called the police. Upon arrival, officers found Vilsaint suffering from gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Vilsaint had a gunshot wound on the right side of his head behind his right ear, and a 9mm semi-automatic pistol was found holstered in his waistband.
The investigation into Vilsaint's death led to the arrest of Rasheed Donovan Dean, a 21-year-old man who was taken into custody by the Broward Sheriff's Office as part of a grand theft auto investigation. During his interview with investigators, Dean admitted to shooting Vilsaint, whom he referred to as "Ivog." Dean claimed that he shot Vilsaint out of fear, as Vilsaint had been waving a gun around while they were sitting in a car at the apartment complex. Dean stated that he and Vilsaint had known each other for a few months and had spent the night driving around before arriving at the complex to smoke and listen to music.
Dean was charged with second-degree murder in connection with Vilsaint's death. The investigation revealed that the vehicle Dean was driving at the time of his arrest had been reported stolen and contained a large amount of blood, human tissue, and an empty gun holster. Dean's admission and the evidence found in the vehicle were crucial in linking him to the crime. He was booked into the Broward jail and awaited extradition to Miami-Dade to face the charges.
