Kyle DJireh Mote, a 21-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on November 1, 2022, in Orlando, Florida. The incident occurred behind a 7-Eleven convenience store on Americana Boulevard. Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene around 2:30 p.m. and found Mote with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Mote's death led to the arrest of Jacob Andrew LeGrand,
who was 17 years old at the time of the shooting. LeGrand was charged with first-degree murder with a firearm. The arrest came after a thorough investigation by the Orange County Sheriff's Office, which included gathering witness statements and other evidence. However, the case took a significant turn when the sole witness recanted their statement and ceased cooperating with authorities. As a result, the state of Florida decided not to pursue formal charges against LeGrand, and a "nolle prosequi" was filed, meaning the prosecution chose not to proceed with the case.
Mote's death was a devastating blow to his family, especially coming less than two months after the passing of his 47-year-old mother, Sharanda Monita Mote.
