Herbert Scott Walker, a 31-year-old constable from Alturas, California, tragically lost his life on May 11, 1901. Walker was assisting a Shasta County Sheriff's Office posse in the search for two escaped prisoners when he was fatally wounded. The posse had located the fugitives, leading to a shootout during which Walker was shot in the hip. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, on May 12, 1901.
