On October 19, 2016, Deputy Sheriff Jack Lanceson Hopkins, aged 31, was tragically killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic disturbance call near the intersection of County Roads 115 and 170, approximately eight miles south of Alturas, California. At around 10:27 AM, Deputy Hopkins arrived at the rural property and was immediately fired upon by the primary suspect.
