On the night of January 4, 1909, Deputy Constable Charles A. De Moranville, aged 38, was tragically killed in Newhall, Santa Clarita, California. The incident occurred during a confrontation with John W. Allen, also known as "Arizona Jack," a ranch hand at Kellogg Ranch in Saugus. The altercation began at a saloon near modern-day Railroad Avenue, where Allen, in a heated argument, brandished two revolvers, causing patrons to flee.
