Thomas Sharp Lynch, a constable in Ukiah, California, met a tragic end on June 14, 1909. Lynch was performing his duties when he arrested a suspect, described as an Indian. During the arrest, Lynch allowed the suspect to enter his wigwam to retrieve a coat. Unfortunately, the suspect returned with a revolver and fatally shot Lynch. This incident highlights the dangers law enforcement officers faced during that era, especially in rural and frontier areas where tensions could run high.
