Jacob Charles Denton, a wealthy mining engineer, was found dead in his Los Angeles mansion in late 1920. Denton, who had earned his fortune in Nevada, had moved into the mansion in 1919 following his divorce from his wife, Sarah. His body was discovered after a four-month search, buried in a sealed box under mounds of dirt in the basement of his home. Denton had been missing since June 1920, and his disappearance had raised concerns among his relatives and acquaintances.
