Shoichi James Okamoto, a 30-year-old American-born Japanese, was tragically shot and killed on May 24, 1944, at the Tule Lake Segregation Center. Okamoto, who was working as a construction worker, was returning to the center after delivering lumber to a job site when the incident occurred.
