On December 22, 1966, in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, 15-year-old Kenneth Cook and his mother, 38-year-old Julia Cook, were tragically murdered in their home. Both were found shot twice in the head, execution-style, suggesting a deliberate and personal attack. Julia Cook had a history of drug-related offenses, which led investigators to consider various motives, including possible connections to her past activities.
The investigation quickly focused on 30-year-old Robert Biehler, a
known criminal with a history of burglary and involvement in prostitution rings. Biehler had been paroled just months earlier, in August 1966, after serving time for his role in a significant bank theft in 1960. Authorities suspected that Biehler feared Julia Cook might inform law enforcement about his illicit activities, particularly his involvement in a prostitution ring. This concern is believed to have driven him to commit the murders, aiming to eliminate any potential threat she posed.
Following the murders, Biehler and an associate, Morton Molin, were detained for parole violations. Investigators attempted to charge both men in connection with the Cook murders. However, due to insufficient evidence, the charges could not be pursued, and the case against them was dropped. Consequently, Biehler was incarcerated for the parole violation, while Molin faced prosecution for unrelated offenses. Despite extensive efforts by law enforcement, the murders of Kenneth and Julia Cook remained officially unsolved at that time.
In the years that followed, Biehler continued his criminal activities, including burglaries and violent crimes. It wasn't until the mid-1970s that he was apprehended and convicted for other murders, leading to a life sentence. While he was never formally charged for the deaths of Kenneth and Julia Cook, many believe that justice was eventually served through his subsequent convictions.
