Steven Earl Parent, an 18-year-old from El Monte, California, was tragically murdered on August 9, 1969, in Los Angeles. Parent was a recent high school graduate with a keen interest in electronics, working two jobs to save money for college. On the night of his death, he visited the Polanski estate in Benedict Canyon to sell a radio to William Garretson, the estate's caretaker.
