Gerald Wayne "Blackie" Sawyer, a 32-year-old detective with the Los Angeles Police Department, was tragically killed on November 6, 1973, in Santa Monica, California. Detective Sawyer was working undercover on a joint investigation with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) targeting cocaine trafficking.
