Clara Louise Rose, a 31-year-old journalist, was tragically found dead on January 19, 1979, in her townhome located in the Los Gatos Woods Townhouse Development. Her body was discovered in the front hallway, lying in a pool of blood. The autopsy revealed that she had been shot twice in the head at close range, struck on the head with a blunt instrument, and strangled. Despite the brutal nature of her death, there were no signs of forced entry, and robbery was ruled out as a motive.
