Florence Evelyn Richina, a 49-year-old former special education teacher, was found dead on October 3, 1980, near Markleeville, California. Her body was discovered nearly a mile away from the pickup truck of James Carlin Toliver, a known associate. Richina had been shot with a .38 caliber pistol, and Toliver's footprints led from the crime scene to his truck.
