Johnny Ramirez Martinez, a 33-year-old California Highway Patrol officer, tragically lost his life on October 1, 1981, in Sacramento, California. Martinez and his partner, Officer James Szabo, were clearing debris obstructing the San Bernardino Freeway in East Los Angeles when a vehicle pulled alongside them.
