On that fateful day, he responded to a distress call from a San Bruno police officer who had been fired upon during a traffic stop on Highway 101. The suspect, identified as Marvin Sullivan, had been stopped for not having current registration on his vehicle. When the San Bruno officer approached, Sullivan opened fire, prompting the call for backup. After shooting Chetcuti, Sullivan stole his weapon and fled the scene. A brief chase ensued, ending when Sullivan surrendered with his hands in the air. Upon his arrest, authorities discovered multiple weapons and pipe bombs in his vehicle. Sullivan was subsequently found incompetent to stand trial on three separate occasions and was committed to Napa State Hospital.
