On January 27, 2004, Edgar Valles, a 22-year-old resident of La Puente, California, was tragically murdered in South Whittier. Valles, along with his friends Mario Larios and Fernando Pina, responded to an advertisement for a customized Chevrolet Monte Carlo priced at $8,500. The trio met the seller, Cimarron Bell, at a gas station and followed him to his home on Inez Street in South Whittier, under the impression that they were going to purchase the car.
