On January 7, 2006, Officer Richard Allen May Jr., aged 38, tragically lost his life in East Palo Alto, California. Officer May was responding to a disturbance call at the corner of University Avenue and Weeks Street around 4:30 PM. Upon arrival, he observed several men engaged in a fight. As he approached the group, one of the men fled. Officer May pursued the individual, who then turned and opened fire with a semi-automatic handgun.
