Daniel Urenda, a 23-year-old Latino man, was tragically killed on March 8, 2007, in Wilmington, Los Angeles, California. He was found shot in the head at 923 N. Lagoon Ave. The discovery of his body came after a woman walked into the Los Angeles Police Department's Harbor Division station and reported that her son, Edward Scaroni, was responsible for the murder. Scaroni, a 22-year-old white man, had a history of mental illness.
The police were directed to the location by Scaroni's mother, where they found Urenda's body inside the garage, wrapped in plastic trash bags and sealed with red tape. The scene showed signs of an attempt to clean up, with blood on the walls and Oxi-Clean poured on a stain on the floor.
Following the report, the police located Scaroni at his home near the intersection of East First Street and Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach. Scaroni barricaded himself inside his home for three hours before surrendering to the authorities. He was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of Daniel Urenda. The case proceeded to trial, where Scaroni was convicted by a jury of murder, along with additional charges of possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of firearms, and driving a vehicle without the owner's consent.

On the morning of March 8, Scaroni's mother informed the police about the possibility of a body in her garage. Detectives discovered Urenda's body under a table in the garage.
