Brittani Idom, an 18-year-old woman from Inglewood, CA, tragically lost her life on July 5, 2007. She was driving near the intersection of Washington and Crenshaw boulevards in Los Angeles when a gunman drove up next to her car and fired several shots. Brittani was struck by a bullet and was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head. Her friend, who was also in the car, was not injured.
Initial reports suggested that Brittani had driven into the middle of a gang gun battle, but further investigation disproved this theory. Instead, it was determined that she was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, a victim of a senseless act of violence.
Brittani was a promising young woman with a bright future ahead of her. She had just completed her freshman year at Glendale Community College, where she was the captain of the cheerleading squad. She had aspirations of transferring to San Diego State University and even considered trying out for the Dallas Cowboys cheerleader squad. Her family described her as a people person who was soft-spoken, intelligent, and very pretty. She was loved by everyone who knew her and had no known enemies.
Despite the presence of around 60 people at the scene, few leads were offered to the police. No arrests were made, and the case remains unsolved. Los Angeles City Councilman Herb Wesson proposed a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Brittani's killer, but it is unclear if this led to any significant developments in the investigation. Brittani's family continues to mourn her loss and hopes that someone with information will come forward to help bring her killer to justice.
