LaNell Crystal Nell Barsock, a 29-year-old licensed vocational nurse from Palmdale, California, was found dead on June 16, 2010. Her body was discovered in the garage of her home, lying in a pool of blood with a plastic bag over her head. Initially, it was believed that she had been bludgeoned to death, but an autopsy later revealed that she had died from a single gunshot wound at close range.

Austin claimed she had overheard an argument between Barsock and her boyfriend, Louis Bonheur, shortly before the murder. She also alleged that Bonheur was alone with Barsock's body when she first discovered the crime scene. Despite these allegations, Bonheur appeared devastated by Barsock's death and denied any involvement in the murder.

It was revealed that Barsock had been involved in a love triangle, seeing both Bonheur and another man simultaneously. In 2015, La'Rene Austin was convicted of the murder of LaNell Barsock. She was sentenced to two terms of 25 years to life in prison. The case highlighted the tragic consequences of jealousy and deceit, ultimately bringing justice for Barsock and closure for her family and friends.
