John Westley Matthews, a 36-year-old man from Westmont, California, was tragically shot and killed on February 5, 2014. The incident occurred around 6:58 p.m. near the 8800 block of South Vermont Avenue. Matthews was walking near a church and had stopped to talk to a parking attendant when a man approached and opened fire. Both Matthews and the parking attendant, a 35-year-old man, were shot. Matthews was pronounced dead at 7:35 p.m. at a nearby hospital, while the parking attendant survived and ...
