Austin Martin, a 23-year-old resident of Oxnard, California, tragically lost his life on February 23, 2014. The incident occurred in the 200 block of West Juniper Street, where Martin was spending time with friends in a garage. The peaceful evening took a violent turn when Abraham Gonzalez, an 18-year-old at the time, approached the open garage door.
Gonzalez, a known member of a criminal street gang, attempted to provoke a confrontation by pointing a gun at the group and demanding to know their affiliations. Despite Martin and his friends asserting they were not gang members, Gonzalez responded by declaring his gang's name and opening fire. Martin was struck in the head and succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to Ventura County Medical Center.
