Nicholas Callen, a 24-year-old resident of Tara Hills, California, tragically lost his life on March 31, 2014. He was found dead at a home on Cornelius Drive around 2:50 p.m. that day. The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, where deputies performed CPR until paramedics arrived, but unfortunately, Callen was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of death was determined to be a fatal gunshot wound.
The investigation into Callen's death led to the arrest of two suspects. Kyle Navarro, a 20-year-old resident of El Sobrante, was charged with murder in connection with the shooting. Navarro turned himself in at the Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez on April 23, 2014, following the issuance of an arrest warrant. He was held in lieu of $2 million bail. The second suspect, Michael McQueen, a 28-year-old from Pinole, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Sonoma a week prior to Navarro's surrender. Both men faced charges of murder and were held on $2 million bail each.
The motive behind the killing was partially attributed to McQueen's romantic feelings for Callen's girlfriend, which added a layer of complexity to the case. The legal proceedings against Navarro and McQueen were set to take place in Martinez, with their arraignments scheduled shortly after their arrests. The case drew significant attention from the local community and media, highlighting the tragic loss of a young life and the subsequent legal battle to bring justice to the victim and his family.
