Jacinta Walker, an 18-year-old woman from Los Angeles, was tragically killed on June 13, 2014, in a violent incident that also claimed the lives of two other individuals. The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. in the 8600 block of South Figueroa Street, on the border of Vermont Vista and Vermont Knolls. Jacinta and her boyfriend, Aveion Bolden, were in the back seat of a silver Toyota Camry, preparing for a double date, when a red Nissan Altima with two occupants pulled up beside them.
A person inside the Nissan fired approximately ten shots, striking both Jacinta and Aveion. They were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the shooting.
The incident was part of an ongoing feud between two street gangs, the Main Street Crips and the Hoover Crips. Anthony Alonzo Cudger, a 25-year-old man who was also in the Toyota, returned fire, hitting Trevor Andre Williams, a 33-year-old man in the passenger seat of the Nissan. Williams was later found dead inside the car at a nearby fire station. The driver of the Nissan fled the scene and has not been identified.
Anthony Cudger was initially arrested on suspicion of murder but was released a few days later after prosecutors determined he had acted in self-defense. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office declined to file charges against him. The investigation revealed that the shooting was gang-related, and authorities believe it was the latest episode in a series of violent confrontations between the rival gangs.
Despite the arrests and the ongoing investigation, the case remains a stark reminder of the pervasive gang violence in certain areas of Los Angeles. The community was deeply affected by the loss of Jacinta Walker and the other victims, and local authorities continue to seek information from the public to help bring those responsible to justice.
