Aveion Curtis Bolden, a 20-year-old man from Los Angeles, California, was tragically killed on June 13, 2014. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. in the 8600 block of South Figueroa Street, on the border of Vermont Vista and Vermont Knolls. Bolden, along with his girlfriend Jacinta Walker and two others, was in the back seat of a silver Toyota Camry preparing for a double date when a red Nissan Altima with two occupants pulled up beside them.
A person inside the Nissan fired approximately ten shots, striking both Bolden and Walker. The shooter was later identified as Trevor Andre Williams, a 33-year-old man who was in the passenger seat of the Nissan.
Anthony Alonzo Cudger, a 25-year-old man who was in the front passenger seat of the Toyota, returned fire, hitting Williams. Bolden and Walker were pronounced dead at the scene at 10:20 p.m. Williams was driven to a nearby fire station but was found dead inside the car. The driver of the Nissan fled the scene. Cudger was arrested on suspicion of murder but was released on June 17 after prosecutors declined to file charges, determining that he had acted in self-defense. The shooting was part of an ongoing feud between two street gangs, the Main Street Crips and the Hoover Crips.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that it was the latest incident in a series of violent encounters between the two gangs. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact the Criminal Gang Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers. Despite the arrests and the ongoing investigation, the case highlighted the persistent issue of gang violence in South Los Angeles, drawing attention to the need for community intervention and support to prevent further tragedies.
