Timothy Ervin White Jr., a 32-year-old man, was tragically shot and killed on July 28, 2014, in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. According to reports, White was standing outside a home on the 900 block of West 79th Street around 9:45 p.m. when he was approached by two men. One of the men greeted him with "What's up man," before the other man pulled out a gun and began shooting.
The assailants then fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan, heading east on West 79th Street toward Hoover Street. White was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead at 10:43 p.m.
White's death is a stark reminder of the pervasive gang violence in the area. He had a past affiliation with the 74th Street Hoover Criminals, a gang that has claimed the lives of several of his family members. His father, Timothy Ervin White Sr., was also a victim of gang violence, having been shot and killed at the age of 35 in 1999, just a mile away from where his son was later murdered. Additionally, a 23-year-old cousin of White's was killed eight years prior to his own death.
Despite his past, White was trying to turn his life around. He had been released from prison in November 2013 after serving time for weapons and drug charges and was actively seeking employment. He was also making efforts to spend quality time with his three sons, aged 15, 10, and 6, and was expecting a daughter with his wife, Thomaya White, in February. The couple had plans to move to San Bernardino County to start anew.
The investigation into White's murder is ongoing, with the Los Angeles Police Department's Criminal Gang Homicide Division leading the efforts. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in solving such cases. Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been made, and the suspects remain at large. The case highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in addressing gang-related violence and the enduring impact it has on families and communities.
