Carlita Villalobos, a 19-year-old from Stockton, California, tragically lost her life on October 12, 2014. She was one of three victims in a triple homicide that occurred in the early hours of the morning. Villalobos, along with Joshua Aquino and Dallas Bidwell, were found fatally shot in her car in the parking lot of the Calaveras Square shopping center. The incident also left her boyfriend, Charles Richardson, critically injured but he survived despite being shot multiple times.
The group had been in the wrong place at the wrong time, as Villalobos was not the intended target but rather caught in a violent situation involving her boyfriend's friends.
The investigation into the triple homicide has been fraught with challenges. Despite initial arrests, the case has seen significant setbacks. In November 2015, just over a year after the murders, charges against the primary suspect, Dazjohn Dao, were dropped due to insufficient evidence. The San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office stated that more investigation was needed to solidify the case against Dao. This decision left the families of the victims, including Villalobos' mother, Roshan Campos, and her sister, Chavella Montantes, devastated and seeking justice.
The Stockton Police Department has continued to investigate the case, but the lack of concrete evidence and reliable witness testimony has hindered progress. The community has held vigils and memorials in honor of the victims, hoping to keep the case in the public eye and encourage anyone with information to come forward. Villalobos' family, particularly her sister who now cares for her young daughter, remains hopeful that justice will eventually be served and that those responsible for the senseless violence will be held accountable.
