On January 17, 1989, six-year-old Sokhim An tragically lost her life in a mass shooting at Cleveland Elementary School in Stockton, California. This horrific event unfolded when a lone gunman, Patrick Purdy, entered the school playground during recess and began firing indiscriminately. Purdy, armed with a semi-automatic rifle and two handguns, fired 106 rounds in just three minutes, resulting in the deaths of five children, including Sokhim An, and injuring 31 others.
