Hamilton Rodriguez-Ramos, a 20-year-old resident of Oakland, California, tragically lost his life on December 10, 2014, after being shot during a robbery. The incident occurred on December 5, 2014, in the 500 block of 37th Street, near the MacArthur BART station. Rodriguez-Ramos was lured to the location under the pretense of selling marijuana to Amari Harmon, a former high school acquaintance. Upon arrival, he was confronted by Harmon and three other men, who robbed him at gunpoint.
Despite his pleas for mercy, Rodriguez-Ramos was shot in the head and succumbed to his injuries four days later.
The investigation led to the arrest of four suspects: Amari Harmon, Tony Alonzo Reed, Steven Hall, and Joel Robinson. Harmon, identified as the shooter, and Reed both pleaded no contest to first-degree murder. They were each sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Hall and Robinson, who were also involved in the robbery, accepted plea deals for carjacking and received six-year prison sentences. The plea deals allowed all four men to avoid the possibility of life without parole.
