Keion was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:08 p.m., while his 16-year-old brother was critically injured and taken to a hospital. The third brother in the car was not injured.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) launched an investigation into the shooting. Witnesses reported seeing a man and a woman in the SUV, which fled south on South Denker Avenue after the shooting. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, and there was no indication that Keion or his brothers had provoked the attack or returned fire. The LAPD's Criminal Gang Homicide Division took charge of the investigation, urging anyone with information to come forward.
