On July 4, 2015, 16-year-old Melissa Esquivel-Flores from Orland, California, tragically lost her life. The case remained unsolved for nearly seven years before a significant breakthrough occurred.

On January 23, 2022, Alfredo Ruvalcaba, a 60-year-old man from Artois, California, was convicted of First Degree Murder with the Use of a Firearm in connection with Melissa's death. The conviction came after a 10-day jury trial held at the Orland Fairgrounds.
