On September 11, 2024, at approximately 5:05 p.m., Riverside Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at a business located in the 6900 block of Jurupa Avenue in Riverside, California. Upon arrival, they discovered 45-year-old Adrienne Johnson inside her vehicle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations led by the Robbery-Homicide Unit, with assistance from the Forensics Unit and the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office, quickly identified Adrienne's brother, 51-year-old David Johnson, as the primary suspect. Evidence suggested that as Adrienne was getting into her car after work, David approached, shot her multiple times, and then fled the scene. Witness accounts and investigative leads supported this sequence of events.
On the morning of September 13, 2024, Riverside detectives, with support from the METRO Team, located and arrested David Johnson. He was subsequently booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of first-degree murder, with a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait, as well as sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations. David Johnson is being held without bail. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
