Kejon Wayne Atkins, a 22-year-old man from Compton, California, tragically lost his life after being shot on July 23, 2015. On that fateful morning, Atkins was standing on the sidewalk in the 1800 block of East 126th Street in Willowbrook when a gold-colored sedan approached. Without warning, someone inside the vehicle fired multiple shots, striking Atkins in the head. Despite being rushed to St.
Francis Memorial Hospital in Lynwood, Atkins succumbed to his injuries four days later, on July 27, 2015.
The investigation into Atkins' death has been challenging for authorities. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Victor Lewandowski reported that there was no evidence to suggest the shooting was gang-related. However, the lack of immediate leads and suspect information has hindered progress. Surveillance footage released by investigators showed two vehicles believed to be involved in the incident: a four-door sedan and a maroon-and-gray Pontiac Aztek SUV. The shooter, described as a shirtless man with tattoos on his back, was in the sedan. Both vehicles were seen speeding away from the scene, running a red light in the process.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement and the community, no arrests have been made in connection with Atkins' murder. His mother, Techea Adams, has been relentless in her pursuit of justice. She has organized walks and community events to raise awareness and encourage anyone with information to come forward. Adams has also set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for a reward, in addition to the $10,000 offered by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
The case remains open, and authorities continue to urge anyone with information to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau or Crime Stoppers. The hope is that someone will eventually provide the crucial tip needed to bring Kejon Atkins' killer to justice and provide some measure of closure for his grieving family.
