Peter Yu, a 28-year-old Korean man, was tragically shot and killed on December 13, 2015, in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Wilshire Boulevard. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, Yu was inside an SUV in a parking lot behind a strip mall when an unidentified man approached and began shooting at him.
The gunman, described as an Asian male wearing a black bomber-style jacket and a black hat, fled the scene on foot, heading south on South Gramercy Place towards Wilshire Boulevard.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the shooting. Witnesses provided descriptions of the suspect, but as of the latest reports, the killer remained at large. The LAPD's West Bureau homicide detectives were actively seeking information from the public to aid in their investigation. They encouraged anyone with information to contact them or to provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
The case drew significant attention due to the possibility of it being a gang-related attack, although this was not confirmed. The community and law enforcement were deeply concerned about the violence and the need for justice for Peter Yu. Despite the efforts of the police, no arrests had been made, and the investigation continued as authorities sought to bring the perpetrator to justice and provide closure to Yu's family and friends.
