Anthony Daniel Razo, a 28-year-old resident of Riverside, California, tragically lost his life on June 26, 2016. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when Riverside Police officers responded to a shooting outside a residence on Stover Avenue. Upon arrival, they found Razo suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of paramedics who treated him at the scene and transported him to Riverside Community Hospital, Razo succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced
dead by hospital staff at approximately 5:45 a.m.
The investigation into Razo's death revealed that he was one of the victims in a series of violent incidents that took place over the weekend. On June 25, 2016, a shooting at a USA Gas station on Tyler Avenue resulted in the death of Terrance Rodgers and injuries to two other men. The following day, Razo was fatally shot outside his home. Detectives identified Jacob Gamboa and Victor Gastelum as the primary suspects in these shootings. Gamboa was charged with multiple counts of murder, including the murder of Razo, while Gastelum faced charges related to the gas station shooting.
Further investigation uncovered that the motive behind Razo's murder was linked to a confrontation between Gamboa and Razo the previous day. Gamboa, angered by an interaction between Razo and his girlfriend, allegedly sought out Razo with the intent to intimidate him. Accompanied by his friend Andrew Steve Molina, Gamboa returned to Razo's residence armed. When Razo confronted them with his own shotgun, Molina and Gamboa opened fire, resulting in Razo's death. Molina was later convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 50 years to life in prison, while Gamboa faced additional charges for his involvement in both shootings.
The arrests and subsequent convictions of Gamboa and Molina brought some measure of justice for the victims and their families. The case highlighted the dangers of gang-related violence and the devastating impact it can have on communities.
