Julio Alberto Diaz-Castro, a 40-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on December 4, 2016, in the Vermont-Slauson neighborhood of Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, the incident occurred shortly before midnight on December 3, 2016. Diaz-Castro was inside a liquor store located in the 700 block of West Gage Avenue when a Latino male entered and opened fire.
As Diaz-Castro attempted to flee, additional shots were fired, causing him to collapse just outside the store. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detectives believe that the shooting might be connected to an incident of car vandalism that took place near the store approximately ten minutes before the shooting. However, the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
