Juan Carlos Gomez, a 32-year-old resident of East Los Angeles, tragically lost his life on March 8, 2017. According to reports, Gomez was sitting in a parked car at the corner of Blanchard Street and Geraghty Avenue when he exchanged heated words with a passerby. The altercation quickly escalated when the man, described as a younger-looking Latino, pulled out a gun and fired multiple rounds into Gomez's car.
Despite his injuries, Gomez attempted to drive away but crashed into a retaining wall a few blocks away. He was found lying on the sidewalk outside his car with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital shortly after.
The investigation into Gomez's death revealed that he had been talking to a young woman shortly before the shooting. Authorities believe that Gomez knew his assailant, which is why they exchanged words before the situation turned violent.
