Whitney Jade Washuta, a 25-year-old woman from West Hollywood, California, tragically lost her life on April 18, 2017. She was walking near her home on Rosewood Avenue around 8:40 p.m. when she was shot multiple times by her ex-boyfriend, Kyle Patrick Ramsey. Washuta collapsed on the sidewalk and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:55 p.m. The Los Angeles County coroner's records confirmed that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.

Washuta had moved to West Hollywood from the East Coast five years earlier with her sister. On the evening of her death, she was walking her dog when Ramsey, with whom she had recently ended a three-year relationship, confronted her. Despite their breakup, Ramsey had continued to contact Washuta against her will. Witnesses reported seeing Ramsey bring flowers and gifts to Washuta's home in an attempt to reconcile, which led to a heated argument a few weeks before the shooting.

Following the shooting, Ramsey fled the scene and was later found in his car on Croft Avenue, about a mile away from where Washuta was killed. He had shot himself in the head, and his death was ruled a suicide. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed that Ramsey was the gunman and that there were no prior records of domestic violence or stalking allegations against him.

The investigation into Washuta's death revealed that she had not filed any reports against Ramsey despite his persistent attempts to contact her. The case was classified as a murder-suicide, and no further arrests or litigations were reported. Washuta's family and friends were left devastated by the loss, and her landlord described her as a beautiful young woman who never did harm to anyone. In her memory, contributions were requested to be made to the Whitney J. Washuta Lyme Foundation, a fund created for the awareness and research of Lyme Disease.
