Darrell Edwards, a 54-year-old man from Los Angeles, California, was tragically killed on May 24, 2017. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, Edwards was driving his dark-colored Audi sedan east on Imperial Highway when he stopped at a red light at the intersection with South Western Avenue in Westmont. At approximately 6:44 p.m., a dark-colored compact car pulled up next to Edwards' vehicle.
A man in the rear passenger seat of the compact car exited with a gun, approached the front passenger side of Edwards' car, and shot him through the open window. The shooter, described as a black man between 20 and 30 years old, then returned to the compact car, which drove away south on Western Avenue. Edwards, struck in the torso, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:25 p.m.
The investigation into Edwards' death revealed that he was married and lived in Downey but had grown up in Westmont, an area he frequently visited. Despite this, investigators were unable to determine a motive for the shooting. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department urged anyone with information to contact their Homicide Bureau or Crime Stoppers to provide anonymous tips. The case remains unsolved, with no arrests made or suspects identified publicly.
