Carlos Velasquez, a 22-year-old Latino, tragically lost his life on July 10, 2017, in Compton, California. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, Velasquez was shot in the 1900 block of West 156th Street. On the night of July 9, Velasquez and his friend, Antonio Banda, 23, were visiting someone at the Westland Village Mobile Home Park. Around 12:18 a.m., deputies were called to the area regarding a gunshot victim.
Upon arrival, they discovered both Velasquez and Banda had been shot. Banda was pronounced dead at the scene, while Velasquez was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The investigation revealed that both Velasquez and Banda had some involvement with a Compton street gang, leading investigators to believe the shooting was gang-related. The shooter, described as a Latino adult, was last seen running west through the mobile home park. Despite efforts to gather information, the case remains unsolved, and authorities continue to seek assistance from the public.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect.
