Martha Alfaro, a 76-year-old woman, was fatally shot in San Francisco's Corona Heights neighborhood late on the night of July 30, 2017. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire around 11:45 p.m. and discovered Alfaro suffering from a gunshot wound near 15th and Beaver streets. She was quickly transported to a hospital, but despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
The suspect in the shooting was identified as Alfaro’s 52-year-old son.
Following the incident, he barricaded himself inside his home, initiating a tense 15-hour standoff with law enforcement. Authorities conducted a thorough search of the suspect’s home to ensure there were no additional threats to public safety. A bomb squad was deployed to sweep the residence, but no explosives or further dangers were discovered. Police confirmed that no officers discharged their weapons during the standoff.
Officials did not immediately disclose a possible motive for the shooting. The suspect had not been formally booked into jail as of the latest updates, as he remained hospitalized.
