Daniel Guillermo Zuniga, an 18-year-old Latino, was tragically shot and killed on September 15, 2017, in the 300 block of Gulf Avenue in Wilmington, Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, Zuniga left his house around 11:35 a.m. to meet a friend and grab some food. As he was walking north on Gulf Avenue, two individuals, both wearing dark clothing, jumped out of a vehicle and chased him.
They shot Zuniga multiple times before fleeing the scene in what was possibly a dark SUV. Zuniga was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:45 a.m.
The investigation into Zuniga's murder revealed that the suspects had targeted him in a seemingly premeditated attack. Despite efforts by the Los Angeles Police Department to gather information and leads, the case remains unsolved. Detectives from the Harbor Division have urged anyone with information to come forward, offering anonymity through Crime Stoppers.
The community was deeply affected by Zuniga's death, and his family has been vocal in seeking justice. The lack of arrests or identified suspects has been a source of frustration and sorrow for those who knew him.
