On the evening of January 6, Karla and a group of friends had gathered on the 4500 block of North Heathdale Avenue, responding to an Instagram message about a party. However, upon arrival, they discovered that no party was taking place at the residence.
As they waited outside, checking their phones for further instructions, a dark-colored SUV approached, and multiple shots were fired. Karla was struck in the back of the head and was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead the following day.
Investigators believe that Karla was not the intended target of the shooting but was instead caught in the crossfire. Initial reports suggested that the shots came from the SUV, but further investigation revealed that bullets were also fired from the sidewalk behind Karla. This led authorities to believe that there may have been multiple shooters involved. Despite extensive efforts, including a $20,000 reward offered by Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L.
