Silverio Tapia, a 26-year-old resident of Orange Cove, California, tragically lost his life on January 18, 2018. The incident occurred around 6:30 PM when the Orange Cove Police Department responded to a call about an injured man on the 800 block of Celaya Street. Upon arrival, officers found Tapia with a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of fire personnel who arrived shortly after, Tapia was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Orange Cove Police Department subsequently requested the assistance of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office to take over the investigation.
Homicide detectives and the Crime Scene Unit from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Through their investigation, detectives discovered that Tapia and two of his friends were outside the home when three men approached and began firing shots at them. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting and have not been apprehended. Detectives are treating this case as a possible gang-related shooting, although Tapia himself was a farm worker with no criminal history.
The investigation into Tapia's death has been ongoing, with detectives seeking any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects involved. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, no arrests have been made, and the suspects remain at large.
