Tavar Eugene Thomas, a 19-year-old from Los Angeles, California, tragically lost his life on January 24, 2018, after being shot the previous day. The incident occurred in the 400 block of West 102nd Street in the Vermont Vista neighborhood. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, Thomas got into an argument with another man outside a home around 1:45 p.m. on January 23. The argument escalated and continued inside the home, where the man pulled out a gun and shot Thomas.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Thomas succumbed to his injuries the following day at 6:14 p.m.
The investigation revealed that Thomas and the gunman were involved in an ongoing dispute, although the specifics of their conflict were not disclosed by the authorities. The Los Angeles Police Department identified Kenneth Benjamin, a 22-year-old, as the suspect in the shooting. Benjamin was arrested on March 13, 2018, and subsequently charged with one count of murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was scheduled to appear in court on March 28, 2018.
