Joseph Martin, age 71, was killed on January 7, 2011, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A retired employee of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board and a barber for more than 30 years, Martin was a well-known figure in his community. He was also an Army veteran who served from 1961 to 1963. The homicide occurred during a period when Baton Rouge was experiencing a high rate of violent crime, with 90 homicides recorded in 2011.
