Cristian Morales, a 20-year-old resident of Oxnard, California, tragically lost his life on June 27, 2018. The incident occurred during a home invasion robbery in the 1800 block of Arcadia Street in the Cal Gisler neighborhood of Oxnard. Morales, along with two other suspects, Antonio Molina and Marco Antonio Juarez, attempted to rob a residence. During the robbery, the homeowner, a 43-year-old man, armed himself with a handgun to defend his home. In the ensuing confrontation, Molina attacked the homeowner, who then fired his gun, hitting Molina in the torso. Despite being injured, Molina managed to take the homeowner's gun and fled the scene with Juarez and Morales. Molina was later dropped off at St. John's Regional Medical Center for treatment but succumbed to his injuries at Ventura County Medical Center.

Following the incident, the Oxnard Police Department launched an investigation that linked the suspects to the crime. Marco Antonio Juarez was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including attempted murder, home invasion, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and shooting at an inhabited dwelling. The charges were filed by the Ventura County District Attorney's Office, and Juarez was set to be arraigned in Ventura County Superior Court. The investigation also revealed that Juarez had used a "ghost gun," an unregistered semiautomatic handgun, during the crime.
