Sheldon Lamounte Harrison, a 29-year-old man from Long Beach, California, was fatally shot on October 12, 2018, in the 9300 block of South Vermont Avenue in Westmont, Los Angeles. According to Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators, Harrison had just exited a liquor store and was conversing with others outside when two cars pulled up. Four individuals emerged from the vehicles and began shooting towards the store. Harrison attempted to flee but was pursued and shot multiple times until he collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:40 a.m., with the cause of death listed as gunshot wounds.
The shooters, described as being in dark-colored, four-door sedans, fled the scene heading south on Vermont Avenue. Despite the presence of witnesses, investigators have struggled to gather detailed descriptions of the assailants, partly due to the area's gang activity and the reluctance of witnesses to come forward. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has urged anyone with information to contact their Homicide Bureau or Crime Stoppers to provide anonymous tips.
As of now, there have been no arrests or identified suspects in connection with Harrison's murder. The investigation remains open, with authorities continuing to seek leads that could help solve the case. The lack of cooperation from potential witnesses has been a significant hurdle in advancing the investigation.
